Vessels

There are different types of vessels that can be encountered in marine navigation and monitoring. Each type of vessel has unique characteristics and behaviors that are crucial to understand for effective maritime operations and analysis.

AIS

A cluster of vessels with active AIS locations.

Light Vessels

A cluster of vessels imaged while their AIS was active.

Unattributed Vessels

A cluster of vessels imaged while their AIS was turned off.

Dark Vessels

A cluster of vessels that were imaged and attributed by Theia while their AIS was turned off.

Data Manager

Click to reveal a drop-down menu allowing AIS, Light, Dark, and Unattributed vessels to be toggled on or off.

Within each ship category, select the filter icon to reveal sliding scale bars for vessel length and width, a drop-down menu for vessel type (see current list below), and an option to search for vessels specifically sailing under different countries’ flags. This is also available for Light, Dark, and Unattributed vessels.

Bunkering AIS/Optical

Under Data Manager, there is a Bunkering Events option.

	Visible when Bunkering Events is enabled. When zoomed in, more detailed icons will show (see below):
	Two unattributed vessels engaged in STS activity.
	One light and one unattributed vessel engaged in STS activity.
	One dark and one light vessel engaged in STS activity.

Once the icon is selected, information on both vessels involved in the STS can be viewed in the vessel toolbar.

	Toggle between each vessel.
	A small dot on the image indicates which vessel is referred to in the toolbar information.
